Sir Winston Churchill’s days ran from dawn into the small hours. After leading an empire and negotiating at dinner tables and in conference rooms, he often wrote his famous speeches and books late at night, frequently with a cigar.<\/p>\n

The Late Hour Series is Davidoff’s tribute to those evenings: an intense, multi-origin blend meant for the hours after sunset.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Late Hour Series is Davidoff’s evening tribute to Sir Winston Churchill, who did much of his writing late at night, often with a cigar in hand. The Toro is the series’ broadest format, 6 inches with a 54 ring gauge, and the most decorated, with ratings of 91 to 93 from a long list of reviewers.<\/p>\n

It is handmade in the Dominican Republic with a dark, oily Ecuadorian wrapper over a Mexican San Andr\u00e9s binder. The filler pairs Dominican tobacco with Nicaraguan leaf from the volcanic soils of Condega and Estel\u00ed, and the Condega visus leaf is aged for months in Scottish first-fill single malt whisky casks, which Davidoff credits with a subtle, mysterious sweetness.<\/p>\n

Davidoff rates it 4.5 of 5 in intensity and describes a full-bodied smoke of about 60 to 80 minutes, announced by a perfumed pre-light aroma and a hint of oak, with a dense, white smoke throughout. Black coffee, leather and spice open the first third, leather, dark chocolate and cream fill the middle, and black pepper, oak and malt carry the finish. Davidoff suggests a heavy, spicy rum that is not too sweet. It is offered here as a box of 20, a pack of 4 or a single cigar.<\/p>\n
