The Peterson “309,” or “4S,” first appeared in Peterson’s 1896 catalog as part of the System series. It is defined by a tall, tubular bowl, tight transition, and a generously bent shank. Smoked by Basil Rathbone in Sherlock Holmes films, the “309” showcases Peterson’s muscular shaping style. The System pipe features an army mount, internal condensation reservoir, and graduated bore P-Lip mouthpiece, offering a dry, flavorful smoke. Available in a rusticated finish with a bright nickel mount.
