Vauen 175th Anniversary Smooth (9mm) Pipe 2

Flat planes catch the light where most pipes show curves: this is the paneled bowl of the Vauen 175th Anniversary set, its faceted sides bringing a crisp, architectural edge to an otherwise classic full bend. The smooth reddish-orange briar reads especially lively across the panels, where the grain shifts direction from face to face.

The anniversary credentials sit in plain view. A sterling silver band wraps the shank with an engraved decorative motif, and the crossed-pipes emblem — Vauen’s mark since the house was founded in Nuremberg in 1848 — is inlaid in silver on the stem. Cut from top PLS-grade briar and finished by hand, it marks 175 years of German pipe making.

Substantial without being heavy at around two and a quarter ounces, the paneled shape gives the hand something to hold and the eye something to follow. The 9mm activated-carbon filter keeps the draw cool and dry. A distinctive piece for a collector who likes geometry with their grain.
