Samuel Gawith’s Black XX is a great example of English rope tobaccos. Virginias are twisted to marry and mature the tobaccos and the resulting rope is stoved to deepen the flavor by caramelizing the sugars. The flavor is pleasant and mellow, but it has a sneaky ‘kick.’ Â This is a tobacco best enjoyed by seasoned veterans.
