Rounded and full in the hand, this bent apple opens the Vauen 175th Anniversary set with unmistakably German proportions — a softly swelling bowl seated low over a fully bent stem. The smooth briar wears a warm reddish-orange stain, polished to a clean gloss that lets the grain travel unbroken from rim to heel.
Vauen has been turning briar in Nuremberg since 1848, and this edition marks 175 years of that history. A sterling silver band rings the shank with an engraved anniversary motif, while Vauen’s signature crossed-pipes emblem is inlaid in silver on the mouthpiece in place of the familiar white dot. The bowl is cut from the maker’s top PLS-grade briar and finished entirely by hand.
At just under five inches and a touch over two ounces, it is a compact, easy-clenching shape that smokes cool on the 9mm activated-carbon filter the series is built around. A quietly confident piece that carries its heritage in the details rather than the volume.
